The Teachings of Passing Time: Reflections on Life’s Journey

From my childhood, I was very interested in working a media as a newscaster or reporter. I used to listen radio programs most of my time. I used to pretend as a reporter and prepare a report from an issue or rehearse what other reporters said to an event that I listened from the radio. Being a journalist was a dream to my life.

During my secondary education in B/wein, I got an opportunity to study journalism in B/wein. Someone told me that there is a special course of studying journalism at Koshin village in B/wein. I started it as soon as I got that information.

I started the course. I got many friends with the same desire. We worked together during the class.  We used to prepare reports of our own. We had learnt the formula to apply when writing reports, how to quote someone to the report, and many other valuable lessons related to it. We practiced it many times. We used to tell the mistakes among us before the instructor. Some of us became very active and felt a confidence to work a media without hesitating the basic knowledge needed to have the journalist. This course was my window to journalism.

After four months of study, I became a correspondent to Radio Jowhar, January 2008. I worked one and half month to Radio Jowhar. I got an experience in reporting the daily news to the radio and giving an interview.

I went to B/burte, my home, for the school vacation. I met the director of Radio Darban in B/burte. I asked him to allow me to work with them during my vacation. Luckily he accepted it quickly. I started working Radio Darban. This time, B/burte is different from Jowhar since it is my district and my family and many friends live here. At first, I started to take one or two report for the evening news. I gradually adapted to it. After a short time, I started to read the whole news. I became a good newscaster. I became well-known journalist in B/burte, and many people recommended me to continue this job since I am making progress.

I have got an experience in journalism. I sent three reports to Horn Afrik, Mogadishu while I was staying in B/burte. Working as a journalist made me think critically, work hard, compose words, organize materials, and get a great status among the society.

I was working as a journalist for a complete year. I stopped it at January, 2009. That moment I graduated from the secondary school, and I was going to study a university in Mogadishu. After four years of study in Mogadishu University, most of my friends in here know that I am a teacher now.
